Remember to keep an eye on the SPAMfighter folder the first month!
The first month you should keep an eye on the SPAMfighter folder. In some cases SPAMfighter can filter out regular newsletters. If that happens, select the email and press "unblock". Now it's back in your inbox and SPAMfighter will never filter it again. In other words, SPAMfighter will learn what you like and what you don't like in one month.

Why do my contacts receive mails from me saying "Please whitelist me"?
Everyday, SPAMfighter receives support from users that asks us "why do some people not receive my mails". Almost every time it shows the receiver has an Anti Spam Filter that for various reasons has acknowledged the senders mail as spam. That is why we have made this little free service that can ask your contacts to "whitelist" you so your mails always will be accepted by them.

At some point in time SPAMfighter has "asked" if you wanted to send the below message to your contacts. If you had accepted this, the below message would show and you would have been able to make your own comments.

I use a good spam filter, and you probably do the same. I have whitelisted you and that means that I will receive all the emails you send to me. I would appreciate it if you would whitelist me in your spam filter.
If you don't have a spam filter, I can recommend SPAMfighter. It is a highly effective free spam filter for Outlook and Outlook Express.
You can get the free SPAMfighter here: /wl/
I hope that you will whitelist me, so we can continue to communicate safely via email in the future.

Best regards
*YOUR NAME*

In the next step, you would have been forced to write your name before you could accept and go on to a page where your contact list was shown and you could de-select any contact of your choice. After this, you would have been able to send out the mail(s).

As you can see, you accepted all 3 steps in the wizard and we sincerely did not try to hide anything from you as we would never "spam" anybody.

If you would like to "double check", please do this:
Install SPAMfighter from
Choose "Start" and "Run"
Write this: "C:\Program Files\SPAMfighter\SPAMCFG.EXE" /f:whitelist
Click OK

Don’t worry, if you have already mailed out once, you will not be able to do it again unless to new contacts. You can also always stop before "step 3"
At the same time, it is important to know, that SPAMfighter does not have access to your contact list, nor is it us who is sending out the mails.

How do I report (Block) spam mails?
Sometimes you will receive a spam mail in your Inbox. You can contribute to the SPAMfighter community by reporting the message to the SPAMfighter server. Simply select the message and click "Block" in the SPAMfighter toolbar. The spam message is moved to your SPAMfighter folder and reported to the SPAMfighter server, immediately blocking it from the rest of the community. The more spam you report, the more you damage the spammers and help all the other SPAMfighter users - SPAMfighter, the most effective way to block spam.

How do I clear (Unblock) a spam mail?
Occasionally, a legitimate email may be moved to your SPAMfighter folder. To move the email back to your inbox and remove it from the SPAMfighter server, simply select it and click the "Unblock" button in the SPAMfighter toolbar.

How do I stop someone from sending me emails I don't want?
If you receive regular unwanted mails from someone, you can blacklist the sender or the whole domain.
Go to: More -> Blacklist and select email address or domain.
Back to index

What is the difference between Block and Blacklist?
When you block a spam mail, SPAMfighter takes a snapshot of the contents of the email and sends it to the SPAMfighter server. If other people block the same message, it's filtered out for the rest of the community.
Notice that you don't block the sender's email address, but only that specific message you received. The reason for not blocking the email address is that spammers use random spam addresses all the time, so it won't help a bit.

When you use blacklist, you don't report anything to the SPAMfighter server, it only affects your mail. When you blacklist an email address or a domain, you just stop people from those addresses from mailing you.
It won't stop spammers, but if you receive a newsletter you can't unsubscribe from or someone you don't like keeps contacting you, you can stop them by blacklisting them.
Back to index

Why don't you blacklist a spammer's email address when I use the block button?
If it was that easy we could save a lot of time. But spammers use random peoples email addresses and that means that stopping a specific spammers email address is 100% useless.

How can I be sure that all mail from people in my Outlook / Outlook Express contacts gets through to me?
To be sure that all emails from people in your Outlook / Outlook Express contacts get through to you, you can import and whitelist your contacts. However, the Standard Free version does not allow more than 100 imports.
Go to "More" -> "Options" -> "Filter Settings" -> "Blacklists & Whitelists" -> "Whitelist email address" -> "Import"
Select the addressbook you want to import to your whitelist
Select the addresses you want to whitelist and "Add" them.

How can I be sure to receive a newsletter, that other SPAMfighters might block it as spam?
You can Whitelist the address it is sent from very easily.
Find the newsletter you want to keep and select it. Then go to: "More" -> "Whitelist" -> "Email address".
Now that newsletter is safe. If you trust content from the whole domain, you can do the same and choose "Whitelist Domain"

Right click on the Spam Folder.
Select Properties from the menu.
Select the Auto Archive tab.
Click "Archive this folder using these settings."
Select the amount of time that you need to review your spam messages.
Click "Permanently delete old items."
Click Apply.
Outlook will automatically delete all items in this folder after the determined amount of time.

Does SPAMfighter bounce spam mails, so spammers think that my address does not exist?
No, certainly not. First of all, it doesn't work. Unfortunately, spammers are not that stupid, and on top of that, almost all spammers are spoofing, meaning faking the "From" address. Just imagine if it was your address they used, and you got thousands of bounced emails. What's more, spammers who don't fake the "From" address are constantly deleting and creating new user names (which is why it's never a good idea to reply to spam asking to be "removed"). In other words, the best case is it's a waste of time and resources.

How can I make SPAMfighter more effective?
SPAMfighter filters almost 95% of spam. As the number of SPAMfighters grows, the server will catch more spam. You may also be receiving spam that other SPAMfighters are not receiving, so fight back at the spammers and BLOCK the spam, by selecting the spam and clicking the Block button. If you aren't achieving at least 80% spam removal, try to set the filter to a harder level.
Go to: More > Advanced Options and use the slider to select a harder sensitivity setting.
We have also made a brand new feature. If you use SPAMfighter Pro, you are able to block an entire language and not just a country domain. As an example you can stop all Italian and German language emails or only accept English and Swedish language emails. So if you are, let's say from Sweden, and only want Swedish and English language mails, you can do just that.

Be aware that not everything you receive unsolicited is spam. SPAMfighter is not designed to remove viruses, virus warnings or other non commercial emails. What SPAMfighter can do for you is remove a large portion of the unsolicited commercial emails you receive in your inbox.  For virus protection, check out our VIRUSfighter.
