FBI, cops invetigate SHU computer breach

Three weeks after someone breached the security system of a computer containing the personal information of a total of 135,000 students, prospective students and graduates, Sacred Heart University officials say they have not received any reports of the information being used illegally. An investigation involving the FBI and the Fairfield Police Department is continuing into the breach, which occurred on May 8, according to a statement from the university. Sacred Heart officials said they could not confirm that any of the files on the computer were actually accessed, but added that they believe the perpetrator had the expertise to do so. The information included the names, Social Security numbers and addresses of current and prospective students and some alumni, Sacred Heart spokesperson Funda Alp said. The credit card numbers of 103 of those 135,000 people also may have been accessed, she said. ...
