Spam level reaches new heights This is the highest recorded level in Ireland since IE Internet started monitoring spam and virus levels in 2003. The record amount of spam is due to an increase in Dictionary Attacks. This is when a spammer sends an email to any likely email address associated with a domain name. "Dictionary attacks are a very crude but effective way for a spammer to collect valid email addresses. Simply put, if the email is delivered, it belongs to someone" said Phelim O'Connell, Managing Director with IE Internet. Meanwhile, the rate of viruses is gradually decreasing with levels in October dropping below the 10% mark.
