The Filter settings subject makes it possible to configure the SEM filters. In detail, the filters are: the SPAMfighter Antivirus filter, SPAMfighter Sender filter, SPAMfighter General filter, SPAMfighter Community filter, and the SPAMfighter Language filter. To configure any of the filters, simply click on the Configure filter button next to it, this will cause the filter settings to appear below.

Read the sections below, for detailed information on each filter.

SPAMfighter Antivirus Filter

The Antivirus filter scans all emails for any potential viruses. It is how the user configures the filter that decided what should be done, in case an infected email is received. The user can set the Filter state, Clean type, and Content acceptance.

Remember to click the Save changes button, to ensure the settings become effective.

Filter state

Specifies whether or not the filter should be "active", i.e. enabled, or not - disabled.

Clean type

Specifies what action should be taken in case an infected email is received. The infected content of the email could be replaced with safe content, the email could be deleted, or it could be quarantined. A quarantined email is not deleted, but stored in a "safe folder", where the infected content has no possibilities of spreading.

Content acceptance

Specifies what kind of content should be accepted. Select whether or not any encrypted or corrupted email attachments should be accepted.

SPAMfighter Sender Filter

The Sender filter functions as a "safety control" for outbound emails. There are two aspects of the Sender filter that needs to be configured - the whitelist, and the blacklist. For each of these two lists, it is possible to add or import both email addresses and domains. Read below for detailed information on how to add or import such.

1. Whitelist

Add or remove emails to the list of accepted and trusted email addresses. Enter an email address in the New email field, and click the Add button. The email address is now part of the whitelisted emails, thus accepted.

It is also possible import a list of email addresses. Simply click the Import button. This will cause the Import email options to appear. Here you must first select which type of email exported file you are trying to import, i.e. which type of separator has been used in the file - usually this is semicolon. Next, you must choose how this list of emails should be treated, regarding any existing list of emails. The list can either be appended to the existing list, or it could overwrite this. Be aware, that choosing the overwrite type will thus completely remove any existing list of emails.

Import the list by clicking the Import file button.

As it is possible to import a list of email addresses or domains, it is likewise possible to export such a list. This is done by clicking the Export button. A "Download file" window is then opened, asking where the list should be saved. Be aware, that the list is saved as a .txt file.

Note: Do not import large amounts of email addresses and domains taken from various Blacklist sites. SPAMfighter already uses realtime blacklists, and due to the nature of spam it makes little sense to import such static lists. Whitelists and Blacklists should only contain 'legitimate' email addresses and domains - not addresses from the typical spammer.

2. Blacklist

Add or remove emails to the list of non-accepted email addresses. Enter an email address in the New email field, and click the Add button. The email address is now part of the blacklisted emails, thus non-accepted.

The procedure of importing or exporting either email addresses or domains is identical to the one described above.

Remember to click the Save changes button, to ensure the settings become effective.

3. Ignore internal emails

The Ignore internal emails feature will automatically stop further processing of internal emails.

If you experience spam emails sent from your own domain (spoofed email addresses) then remove all internal domains from the Whitelist and mark the checkbox "Ignore internal emails".

Note: Because of some technical limitations in Microsoft Exchange, emails sent from users through the POP3 or IMAP protocol will be considered external emails. If you have users that send emails via the POP3 or IMAP protocol, then please add these users' email addresses to the Whitelist.

4. LockDown

The LockDown feature will cause only whitelisted email addresses and domains to be accepted. If for instance a user tries to send an email to a blacklisted email address, the email will not be sent. The LockDown feature is enabled by marking the checkbox.

SPAMfighter General Filter

The General filter enables the user to configure various settings, including the mail size.

generalfilter_scaled

Filter state

Specifies whether or not the filter should be "active", i.e. enabled, or not - disabled.

Mail size setting

Specifies whether or not all emails should be processed by the filter, or only emails above a certain size (measured in kilobytes).

Remember to click the Save changes button, to ensure the settings become effective.

SPAMfighter Community Filter

Filters messages based on messages already blocked by other SPAMfighter community users. For instance, emails might have been blocked, i.e. marked as SPAM, by an SEM application elsewhere.

thresholdfilter_scaled

Filter threshold

Specifies the threshold level, i.e. how "strict" should the filter be. Note, that the higher the threshold, the more emails will be considered as SPAM. We suggest you choose a Medium threshold, as this is the most common level.

You could also choose the custom threshold level, and specify your own sensitivity setting. This is especially useful if you wish to "fine-tune" the threshold level. The setting must be a number between 0 and 99. The higher the number, the greater the sensitivity level.

Remember to click the Save changes button, to ensure the settings become effective.

SPAMfighter Language Filter

Makes it possible to filter emails written in specific languages. Simply select the "Only receive emails written in these languages" checkbox, and select the desired languages below. To receive all emails, regardless of it's language, select the "Don't receive emails written in these languages" checkbox, and leave all language checkboxes unmarked.
