University of Colorado Discovers Data Hack

The University of Colorado (CU) at Boulder informs that it is probing into a security breach that might have exposed personal information of 500 instructors and 9,000 students.

According to Bronson Hilliard, a Spokesman for CU, the data breach was found on Thursday, April 24, 2008. It occurred on two desktop PCs and a laptop reserved for administrators employed in the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies, as reported by examiner on April 26, 2008.

Security investigators further found a malware-laden file on April 24, 2008 that prompted them to examine log files in order to determine, how much data had been exposed, and if the attacker had been able to access any information.
