Some Users Might Well Favor Adware, Says Microsoft

New statistics from Microsoft indicate that a lot of users are not against installing adware programs, despite security software flagging them as suspicious.

Adware is a software application that displays banner ads. The developers of these programs incorporate an additional script that serves up the ads viewed through a bar or pop-up windows on the computer screen.

Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT), which detected 129.5 Million PUPs (potentially unwanted programs), said that users removed only 71.7 Million of them.

Tim Rains, Group Product Manager, Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing Group dealing with security issues said that they have found customers who preferred running this unwanted stuff, as reported by PCWorld in the fourth week of April 2008. R...
