Russian Government-Backed Hackers Attacked American-Financed Radio Free Europe

Russian hacker forces, enjoying state backing, have launched a new cyber war in the world's east-west region with the first bulk cyber attack on (RFE) Radio Free Europe/ Radio Liberty, a radio station that runs with American finance and broadcasts from Prague to Eastern Europe and the Middle East, as reported by Sundayherald on May 11, 2008.

The hacking attack disabled the RFE sites that serve Kosovo, South Slavic, Radio Farda, Tatar-Bashkir, Azerbaijan, Tajik, and Russian visitors. However, the main target of the attackers was the Belarus RFE/RL portal. Nevertheless, the mysterious attack appeared to show that how Russia's secret hackers sought to demonstrate their cyber-prowess as they broadened their target area across the world.
