Virus of Osama Destroys Disk

Cyber Forensic Experts of the AP Forensic Science Laboratory (Andhra Pradesh, India) advised the web users that if they receive mails with the subject, "Osama Bin Laden hanged", then they should ignore and delete the mail, as per the reports of The Siasat Daily on May 22, 2008.

The released news said that a mail is circulating with the subject of hanging of Osama and contains a Trojan, a computer malware, in it. If the user clicks on the attached snaps, then the hard disk of the system will be destroyed by the Trojan. But the Cyber forensic experts informed that the Trojan in the mails of "OSAMA" is not harmful.

Cyber forensic expert at the AP Forensic Science Laboratory, Mr. U. Ram Mohan, said that unauthentic details of famous personalities often serve the purpose of hackers to spread Trojan. Mr. Mohan also added that if anyone visits or opens the attachment, a version of the Psyme Trojan would get downloaded on the system, as per the news of The Siasat Daily on May 22, 2008.

Symantec said that Psyme is a Trojan horse program that installs and operates file accessing a familiar exploit of ADODB Stream objects in Microsoft Internet Explorer. Naturally, this is conducted without the user's consent.

Further, F-Secure go on to explain a the Trojan as a variant of JS/Psyme.CK, which as per F-Secure, exploits vulnerabilities discovered in the infected system and redirects to other Websites. After this, it tries to operate and install a binary from a URL.

The mail sent by AP Forensic Science Laboratory cautions the users that if they open the Osama kinds of mails, their system will be crushed down, and no remedy can repair it, as per the news of The Siasat Daily on May 22, 2008.

Mr. Mohan claimed that this mail is not dangerous and should be avoided. He said that in 2006, the Osama virus mails were defined as hoax. Mr. Mohan informed that the similar hoax mails are circulating again.

Another member of AP Forensic Science Laboratory said that they have received around 5 complaints from users who got Osama mails carrying Trojan, as per the news of The Siasat Daily on May 22, 2008.
