Data Theft & Money Laundering Threats Rise in Virtual WorldMcAfee released a new report which says that virtual worlds provide playgrounds not only for players who want to enjoy some fantastic online role plays, but also for internet criminals who seek places to steal data and launder money. Criminals hack the virtual world's in-game economies as they attempt to conceal their profits via the interchange of virtual currencies. According to Dr. Igor Muttik, Senior Architect, McAfee Avert Labs, when an attacker compromises an online game account, he converts the items stolen into virtual currency and then changes it to a real cash, as reported by CNETNews on August 27, 2008.
