Flaws in Open Office Allow Remote Code Execution

According to news published by Vnunet on October 31, 2008, Open Office, the application suite for cross-platform office, is addressing security flaws that attackers could exploit for remote code execution on targeted computers.

Security specialists said that Open Office has two vulnerabilities. A security advisory from OpenOffice.org states that one of the vulnerabilities relates to the picture file format, WMF (Windows Metafile), as reported by NetworkWorld on October 30, 2008.

The specialists further elaborated that the flaw could be exploited if a specially designed StarSuite or StarOffice document with a WMF file is opened.
