Majority of Internet-linked PCs Unsafe, Says Secunia

A Denmark-based security supplier Secunia has revealed that over 98% PCs running Microsoft Windows are highly susceptible to hacking attacks. According to the survey conducted by the firm, nearly all the computers were found to have one or more malicious or dangerous software in the lack of latest software version, which patch certain vulnerabilities.

According to the firm, data was collected by scanning 20,000 PCs between Nov 26, 2008 and Dec 2, 2008, which unveiled that just 1.91% of the surveyed PCs were free from any insecure software or program.

Additionally, about 30.27% PCs were found to contain 1 to 5 insecure programs, 25.07% of the PCs were having 6 to 10 such programs, while 45.76% systems recorded 11 or more distinct software in need of update.
