Meriden Police – Cyber Criminals Using Sophisticated Attack Techniques

Martin Eisner, Detective at Meriden Police Department (Meriden, USA), said that online fraudster and spammers were becoming sophisticated in their attack vectors, as reported by myrecordjournal on August 13, 2009.

Eisner analysis reveals that online fraudsters target a particular group of people such as elder and mentally retarded if they felt that they can make money from them. In fact, scammers do not care who they are targeting as long as they make profit from them.

Scammers are well abreast with the jurisdictional and other challenges faced by local police and therefore, they have become aggressive in recent past. For example, some Meriden Police officials have found scam e-mails in their inboxes. These scam e-mails are generally spam sent by fraudster in tremendous volume with an intention that somebody will be deceived and caught in their net.

According to the Police, the new version of e-mail scam ask the recipients to help a dying widow and gets millions from Africa by giving their bank account number. In such types of scam, cyber crooks send a large number of e-mails and ask for their help on the humanitarian ground.

Expressing his online scams, Eisner said that local residents should adopt a precautious approach and avoid wire transfer of money or giving their account number, as reported by myrecordjournal on August 13, 2009.

Eisner further added that their prime goal is to inform people about the happening taking place in the cyber world. If the Department succeeds in making people aware, the number of victims can be reduced.

Security experts state that these unsolicited e-mails should be deleted as soon as they come to vision of an e-mail account holder.

The Department has advised the local residents that they should contact the Police if they felt that Internet scammers have made them victim. Besides, the recipients should forward the scam e-mail to the Police so that necessary investigation could be conducted to nab the perpetrators and save other from becoming their victims.
