EdgeWave identifies IRS Spam Mails

EdgeWave, a provider of Secure Content Management (SCM) solutions recently detected spam e-mails, intended towards exploiting Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The subject line of the e-mail message published on VIRUS TOTAL on July 7, 2011 carried the title "The IRS 2011 Summer Forums Invitation". The content in the body of the mail started at a very friendly gesture by introducing words like "Exclusively for [targeted individual]."

The content of the e-mail mainly announced the hosting of a series of six Money Forums during this summer with the mission of educating and serving the tax practitioner community. The series of 3-day forums will be conducted during the month of July, August and September of 2011.

The e-mail also contained Tax Professionals' application form attached for registration. The downloadable form should be filled and sent back for approval and confirmation for participation.
