Nikhil Nanda’s E-mail Account Hacked, Lodges Complaint with Police

Nikhil Nanda, an established and renowned industrialist of India who is also Escorts Group's Joint Managing Director, lately filed one complaint with the police regarding hackers who attacked his e-mail, so published The Economic Times dated August 1, 2013.

Nanda told Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing that after the hacker compromised the e-mail account, he dispatched a number of messages to the e-mail ids of his friends asking them to do a favor by transferring 'pounds' amounting a few lakhs, published The Economic Times.

The fake e-mails dispatched stated that Nanda who was currently at Manchester, UK had his niece under hospital care because her health suddenly became critical so he required money, an experienced Police Officer said, as per The Economic Times report.

The Officer also stated that the e-mail asking for the pounds to get deposited into one particular account additionally assured that when the writer, meaning Nanda, would get back home, he would give back the borrowed sum.

Nanda immediately realized it was a fraud when people known to him telephoned him telling they read the e-mail.

Fortunately Nanda regained the personal e-mail account on 22nd July, 2013. He was shocked to find that each of the files that contained secret data appeared in some other dialect after being altered.

Nanda, on checking his e-mail's username along with password as well as his birth-date written on an online questionnaire and dispatched through one bogus Microsoft e-mail, understood that someone deliberately defrauded him via his electronic mail system. Meanwhile, the crime department that took down the case within the purview of deception, fraud as well as the IT Law, described the criminals as operating from Manchester.

Now, in a similar case where cyber-thugs broke into the e-mail account of a billionaire, during March 2013, US-based venture capitalist John Doerr from KPCB (Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers) who also belongs to the Google board-of-directors had his American Online (AOL) A/C become the target of Guccifer a notorious e-mail attacker. This hacker, who compromised Doerr's account, acquired admission into the venture capitalist's contact information related to some KPCB officials and many of his acquaintances.
