Chinese Hackers Ensnare Vietnamese Internet-users by Distributing Malware

Security specialists are cautioning Internet-users of Vietnam against hackers from China who're making efforts for distributing malicious software that are intended to ensnare Vietnamese PCs, published english.vietnamnet.vn during the 3rd-week of May 2014.

It has been observed that while the issue regarding East Sea is under escalated tension, hackers from China have been attempting at planting spyware and more malware via the frequently used '.pdf' and '.doc' PC files, respectively exhibiting graphics/text and word-processing documents, for destructing computers belonging to Vietnamese Internauts.

One senior executive at a renowned security company in Vietnam, CMC Infosec, says the hackers' malicious software is getting disseminated largely via e-mails. Incase file attachments inside the electronic mails are viewed, spyware gets installed quite stealthily and mechanically onto the host PCs. Such spyware's infection makes PCs perform increasingly slowly when there's unusual rise in CPU and memory usages. At times, end-users may view errors in their documents alternatively those documents become illegible.

As per recommendation by CMC Infosec, Internauts mustn't take down alternatively view attachments having '.pdf' or '.doc' files dispatched from unknown senders. They should solely view files using Internet software post uploading those files onto cloud-based drives, like Microsoft's SkyDrive, or GoogleDrive.

Security Director Nguyen Minh Duc of multi-national IT firm FTP in Vietnam commented that China-situated computer attackers had indeed acted confusingly in gleaning data from Vietnamese individuals or firms over an extended time-period. According to him, as worry brewed up regarding East Sea, Chinese hackers normally got a pull for solidifying their hacking operations, reported greetingvietnam.com, May 18, 2014.

Duc stated that Internet-users required strengthening themselves via loading anti-virus software onto their PCs. As good advice, they mustn't click web-links else view files coming through e-mails or chat websites, while also refrain from viewing any doubtful attachment. Still if it was necessary to view any particular attachment, it must be done using Google Docs, Duc added.

Vietnam Computing Emergency Rescue Team specifically recommends state agencies to send crucial documents solely via their agencies e-mail A/Cs and not through public mailboxes, adding that PCs having vital data should be brought to control in a special way.
