Melbourne Man Declared Guilty in Child Porn Virus Case

9news.com.au reported on 7th May, 2015 stating that a 62 year old Melbourne man namely Kenneth Palliser, has been found guilty of series of offences for creating computer viruses which imitate a survey of public transport and screensaver but actually download child porn.

Jury of County Court of Victoria found him guilty for seven charges related to scam in 2010 where Palliser posed as an attractive young woman online to share links to the survey virus and put him in custody on Thursday, 7th May, 2015.

Prosecutors allege that Palliser also wrote a computer virus and conceal it in a fake myki survey and whenever someone clicked on the survey line, 45 pornographic images were downloaded. While the characters of the virus could not be found but police could find the traces of Mr. Palliser's online activity during their investigation.

He is also blamed of tweeting the virus under the codename of Ian Sanderson.

The prosecutor said that he denied having created the codenames or written the virus and rather he claimed that he had been "hacked" and "set up" probably by neighbors.

The Mitcham man (Palliser) has denied the presence of child porn on his computer.

One hard drive found to be having labeled "Ken's" containing 10 images of child pornography which include two set of 45 downloaded by the virus.

9news.com.au reported on 15th April, 2015 stating that Prosecutor Colin Mandy informed the Jury about a tendency of Palliser to confront people with child pornography on a large scale and he had also pleaded guilty to offences related to child porn in 2006.

Mr. Papas explained that Palliser's offence in 2006 was totally different than the present charges because he had distributed child pornography physically and not electronically.

Mr. Mandy said that Palliser had lots of experience in IT and his computers and hard drives were severely encrypted.

Lawyers for Palliser have repeatedly said that the prosecution's case is based on circumstances.

9news.com.au published news on 15th April, 2015 quoting Nick Papas, Defense Barrister, as saying "police have failed to link Palliser with a key alias identified while investigating one of the viruses."

Palliser will appear before the court again on 26th June for a hearing for appeal.
