Rugby World Cup Being Maligned with Ticketing Scam E-mail

A ticketing scam through e-mail has hit the Rugby World Cup to start September 18 through till October 31, 2015 just when the tournament is about to commence in England, published stuff.co.nz dated September 10, 2015.

World Rugby along with London police has issued an alert to fans about false sweepstakes and lotteries providing tickets for the game masquerading as official suppliers.

Police are advising people getting the scam e-mail to bring it to their notice while efforts are on to stop perpetrators engaged at spoiling the game.

The fake sweepstake/lotteries are giving equally fake prizes in various currencies (South African Rand, Dollars and Pounds) that require paying a fee for administrative purpose to claim the prizes else submitting personal information at a non-authorized e-mail id.

Andy Fyfe, Detective Chief Inspector of the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau within the London Police describes the lottery fraud as very conventional which's exploiting Rugby World Cup's goodwill for trying to convince the public they're winners of a real lottery game. Stuff.co.nz reported this.

Inspector Fyfe says it's extremely important that anyone receiving the scam e-mail doesn't get in touch with the writer of the e-mail through any means whatsoever rather he/she should inform police about it at their Action Fraud division.

Bernard Lapasset Chairman of World Rugby adds that it's World Rugby's sincere wish that people be assured the game holder doesn't arrange any sweepstake/lottery in connection with any property or event of Rugby, in particular, the Rugby World Cup 2015 at the moment. Lawinsport.com reported this, September 9, 2015.

Stephen Brown, Managing Director of England Rugby 2015 says that on the eve of the tournament, fans are requested to purchase the tickets solely via official channels and enjoy Rugby World Cup 2015 to get a most exciting experience. The tickets to several matches to be held across various stadiums can still be bought through tickets.rugbyworldcup.com, Brown informs. Lawinsport.com reported this.

According to Brown, fans must avoid buying tickets from secondary markets to not get trapped, while use the organization's "official checker" tool from its rugbyworldcup.com site as well as its authorized resale platform at the tickets.rugbyworldcup.com site.
