Scammers Attacking Lonesome Tourists and Singletons, Cautions Kaspersky

Kaspersky the security company states that in the most recent phishing and spam operations, lonely singletons and tourists are being targeted as they search the Web for persons desiring adoration. The alert is issued within the company's "Spam and Phishing in Q3 2015" report that as well indicates one fresh tactic that bulk e-mailers are employing for circumventing e-mail filters as well as cheating recipients, published techweekeurope.co.uk in news on November 13, 2015.

According to Kaspersky Lab, between July and September 2015, spam mails contributed 54.2% to the entire e-mail traffic, falling 0.8% from April to June 2015.

On the list of top spam countries, USA is at 15.3%, Vietnam at 8.4%, China at 7.2% and Russia next on No.4, but dropping from No.2 in the second quarter.

Further according to Kaspersky, it has observed one fresh phishing e-mail tactic which was frequently used during Q2 2015. In that, spammers it appeared pasted the e-mail text along with any fake web-links on a PDF document instead of the actual message body. This tactic uses a crafty way for circumventing anti-spam filters.

Another interesting thing - the volume of e-mail junk that increased tremendously during the third quarter carried false alerts from hotels, airlines and booking services. Such junk e-mails tried exploiting customers in the summer vacation when the e-mails were distributed for spreading malware, particularly, Trojan-Downloader.JS.Agent.hhy.

Many Internauts also got spam mails that presented a brides' list belonging to Ukraine and Russia. People answering those e-mails got further spam with a few messages even asking for transmitting cash to get the brides to reach the places and make visits.

In Q2 2015 (April-June 2015), a few months showed relatively stable spam campaigns; however, in the warmer period of Q3 2015, there was an increase in spam all over the globe. This increase was more between July and August while there was a remarkable fall in September as summer nearly ended.

Both Proofpoint and Symantec the security companies earlier stated that spam volumes were going down towards levels unseen from 2012. However according to Proofpoint, malware-laced e-mail campaigns are going up.
