Malware Attack Targets Porn Websites; Leaves Users’ PCs Infected

Malvertising meaning malicious advertising works to be a highly sought after technique for cyber-criminals who want to filch users' private details or hijack their computers. During one new assault against more than a hundred pornography websites, such crooks caused infection to damage multi-million personal computers of the visitors through malware. Koreaportal.com reported this, January 2, 2016.

The problem got reported from security company Malwarebytes when December 2015 just started. Its confirmation came from AdExpansion, which noted that albeit the organization had effectively deactivated those adverts in just hours of knowledge, they couldn't stop the creation of new accounts by the malvertiser.

US situated Malwarebytes identified widely-visited sites such as PornHub, RedTube and xHamster along with similar others as being seriously assaulted that led to the compromise of their data. The websites receive many million visitors daily. More pornography websites that got struck with malware included names like Eroprofile, Nuvid, DrTuber, Xbabe and IcePorn.

Adult advertising network AdExpansion hosted as well as served the adverts. Users receiving those ads don't necessarily have to click with their mouse on them for becoming contaminated with the malicious software, says UK's International Business Times.

Malwarebytes' analyst Chris Boyd elaborating to IBTimes, UK about the situation said the problem wasn't as much that malverts targeted porn websites as they attacked networks for adult advertising. For, ultimately contaminated computers were yet the same; however, just like with the majority of malicious advertisings, the online sites themselves did not seem as having any control on the type of adverts they should provide their visitors.

It seemed the advertising aided the Sex Messenger service as well as had one specialized tool to figure out if it was a bot or human at the user end. Once users' personal info was identified with the help of Internet Explorer browser of Microsoft, the malware exploited the PC's defense configurations. Subsequently, it diverted the end-user onto one fake web-page containing his data from certain cloud portal, said UK's BBC.

And while AdExpansion hasn't got back with its remarks about the malware assault, hitherto, which its advertisement-network proliferated, the ad, however, is no longer there on the network.
