A Dire Lack of Knowledge about Ransomware Exists Despite Record Number of Infections

Key security strategist and founder of eSentire, Eldon Sprickerhoff wrote to Security Intelligence over electronic mail that malicious software appeared as evolving pretty fast and overriding all concerns. Their survival was simultaneous with propagation. Malware developers had often chosen various malware strains' functionality to integrate it into future codes, routinely monitoring each generation's such integration for efficiency and profitability.

Moreover according to security company Kaspersky Lab, PC-operators feared more regarding other malware types, particularly, spyware, Trojans and viruses in comparison with ransomware. Of a total 5,000 PC-operators surveyed, merely 16% said they were scared of ransomware. Out of that same total, 43% stated they weren't even aware of the ransomware kind of malware.

Kaspersky further notes that there has been a 30% rise in users victimized with ransomware during April-June quarter over January-March 2016. Besides, the total number of assaults needn't necessarily be as the statistics shows rather it can be higher. That's because they merely consist of heuristic and signature-based identifications. Sometimes software effectively blocks ransomware exploits based on just their behaviors and profiles therefore aren't referred to within the stated statistics. Securityintelligence.com posted this, May 24, 2016.

Evidently, because there's an absence of knowledge about the ransomware kind of malware it explains why numerous PC-operators don't have an idea of what way it can be tackled. Among the survey participants, 25% stated that ransomware infection could be best eliminated via taking the PC offline that actually isn't the real solution.

The group also thought that ransomware didn't seize credit card information, SSN and bank account details. Further, even if it encrypted the folders containing the three information stored there, PC-owners could always reach offline sources for recovering the same.

Naturally, it's no wonder that such large number of users become victims of ransomware infections today. The majority hardly knows anything about it, let alone the way of its prevention as well as remaining safe from the places they get distributed from.

When ransomware attacks, it's dramatic, full of splash screens that flout ransom notes. However, the way for end-users to defeat it is by possessing one active retrieval method along with certain dependable backup.
