Fresh Ransomware ‘Stampado’ Priced Just $39, Spreads Fear

One completely new ransomware called Stampado that comes for rather cheap is being traded on underground forums. As per cyber-security firm Heimdal Security, it functions like CryptoLocker, however, contains some additional tricks, like it does not require administrative rights for contaminating computers.

Generally, the majority of ransomware families are priced several hundred dollars when hired for a month, but Stampado unleashed quite inexpensive ransom software for use. The malware contains certain features which let its users concentrate on distributing the ware while the Stampado team does the malware coding.

Heimdal Security after spotting Stampado's advertisement found that the ransomware had identical characteristics, at least theoretically, of the notorious as well as yet-to-be decrypted CryptoLocker ransomware.

According to the creators of Stampado, they can produce ransom software payloads within the DLL, BAT, EXE, CMD and SCR formats In addition to the Stampado ad, the cyber-criminals as well posted a video for instructing probable victims how to come out of the infection. Consequently, it was possible to get a few clues of Stampado's functioning.

Nevertheless, the best part of Stampado which also raises considerable concern for PC-owners is that its cost is merely $39 with a license for as long as it can be used. That enables easy entry for cyber-crooks beyond any limit. Infosecurity-magazine.com posted this, July 13, 2016.

It's probable that the ransom amount is customized depending upon each buyer's requirement, as well as carries some grace time-period that is apparently 96-hrs as shown inside the video. Thereafter, Stampado will erase file randomly after each interval of 6-hrs, an activity the Jigsaw ransom software too does by erasing files so victims struck with fear will make the ransom payments.

Notably, not a single Stampado sample has been spotted; therefore, neither the cyber-security firm nor any other researcher to whom Softpedia enquired was able to tell whether it was possible to decrypt the ransomware.

The Stampado malware has the ability for proliferating widely. Therefore, end-users require safeguarding themselves by not pursuing web-links and attachments within dubious electronic mails. Besides, maintaining backup of data-files is essential so files can be recovered should an attack strike a user.
