Ransomware, Fastest Growing Malware and Most Profitable Too

Among all types of malware, ransomware is increasing the most, totaling millions every month. The ransomware revenue amounts to several billion dollars every annum. PandaLabs of Panda Security a security company in its latest three-month report mentions that Trojans was another malware on the Top Ten list.

The above malware rankings is based on a mean of 200,000 fresh malicious programs spotted daily, with 18m fresh malware strains getting spotted during the quarter. The number was higher from the earlier quarter when it was 227,000.

According to Luis Corrons, Technical Director of PandaLabs, their latest quarterly ransomware report didn't show the statistics for the different strains. However, to give an idea of the malware category's extent of prevalence affecting consumers and organizations, Corrons provided certain hitherto unpublished data for the benefit of another security firm Infosecurity which tells that Panda Security had caught and stopped more than 3,000 attack attempts of just the single Cerber ransomware during as short a time as the second, third and fourth weeks of July, 2016. Infosecurity-magazine.com posted this, July 28, 2016.

Cisco yet another security company reports that it found many trends within the existing techniques of web-attacks that are boosting ransomware growth. This' in addition to a five times rise in HTTPS traffic flowing from sinister operations during H1-2016.

According to Cisco, the instance of one Slovenian firm radiates interest because Russian cyber miscreants had contacted it telling they had hijacked the firm's PC-network while loaded ransomware onto the computers. To make the firm believe that the miscreants could reach its network they dispatched one file containing the series of devices appended to the different PCs.

A website named "No More Ransom" was launched in the early days of the week in a joint effort by Kaspersky Lab, Intel Security, Dutch police and Europol.

The website discusses about ransomware and how people can retrieve inaccessible data devoid of making any ransom payment. It also tells how people can safeguard their computers from such malware. Moreover, it provides tools which may decrypt a few kinds of ransomware-encrypted data. For the purpose, the portal supplies more than 160,000 keys.
