Neutrino EK Closes Operation

The market for EKs (exploit kits) appears to be short of one hitherto profusely existing player ever since word is spreading that the infamous Neutrino Exploit Kit is no longer available. It's also probable that some private clientele has taken up Neutrino; however, considering either cases, the kit isn't any longer obtainable.

A message dated 9th September that Kaffeine security researcher from France published was discovered on secret crime sites. The message, a Jabber missive, was from the controller of Neutrino while it said that the kit operators had closed shop, was taking no fresh hiring as well as wasn't extending its business anymore. Near about September 16, the banners canvassing Neutrino went off from the secret criminal websites facilitating hacking operations.

Following the message's publication, it was not sudden that harmful traffics, which diverted end-users onto the exploit kit namely Neutrino, stopped rather gradually went over for another exploit kit, the RIG EK, in September this year. The Heimdal Security, Malwarebytes as well as Malware Traffic Analysis security companies noticed the slowdown of Neutrino during September.

A joint task force from security firms GoDaddy and Cisco terminated numerous malvertising campaigns that used Neutrino. The firms' security investigators opine that people behind Neutrino stepped back for either of the two reasons that the thought of being exposed followed with getting arrested scared them or their customers no longer had the faith they reposed in them.

Nevertheless, according to Kaffeine, the stepping back could also be because the owners of the popular exploit kit thought that treading on Magnitude's path leading to having the kit become a private property would be better because then only one criminal gang will use it though with massive operations. Virusguides.com posted this online dated October 3, 2016.

Kaffeine believes this emptiness would not take long to be filled when fresh attack toolkits would enter the market. For example, there's one exploit kit called Neutrino-v that at present is chiefly running in South Korea and Taiwan.

Neutrino's sinking in 2016 as a major EK is 3rd in the row following Angler EK's and Nuclear EK's demises.
