WhatsApp Users Spammed of Video Calling Web-Link

On November 15, WhatsApp introduced a new utility called 'video calling' which people were keenly waiting for. But at the same time, unfortunately, spammers, by creating one spam website, started sending an invitation web-link in bulk e-mails to WhatsApp users to supposedly access the feature.

Spammers wrote that the recipient of their message was invited for working with the Video Calling utility of WhatsApp. Together with the web-link, the message stated that the feature could be enabled only if the user got an invitation for the same. So if and when anybody followed the web-link he was led onto a site which asserted it had the web-link with which WhatsApp video calling utility could be activated. The site is clearly a fake but appears extremely credible. The site further stated that the particular utility was obtainable for BlackBerry, Windows Phone, Android and iOS. There were also screenshots the spammers posted of the utility that again appears extremely credible.

The screenshots display one video call going on among two persons. Not only that there's also a display of a group video calling in the screenshots. The lower portion of the web-page gives details regarding video calling within a group of people. It states that for groups engaging in video callings the limit of participants is five at the most. Bgr.in posted this, November 17, 2016.

Users of WhatsApp are urged to be watchful about the spam web-link that's getting widely circulated. It's also known that numerous users have in reality pursued the web-link out of curiosity. Unfortunately, simply clicking on it makes one's mobile vulnerable to attackers easily hacking into the device followed with garnering sensitive info. The right way to obtain the service of video calling is to make the WhatsApp application up-to-date via accessing App Store and Play Store for iOS end-users and Android end-users respectively.

Meanwhile, it isn't unknown of such spam attacks getting circulated for spammers have forever attacked widely preferred applications like Facebook and WhatsApp. In fact, even prior to the rolling out of WhatsApp video calling service, phony web-links for activating the service were getting distributed.
