Content of IOL Blocked on Facebook

Wrong spam reports stopped the people from posting IOL.co.za news articles onto Facebook. IOL website, which is owned by Independent Newspapers Group, was featuring articles which got published in Cape Argus, the Cape Times, the Star and the Mercury among others.

It seems that Facebook users flagged too many genuine news stories of the website as spam.

Thus, continuing spam alerts has led Facebook to stop allow the people from sharing news content of IOLs on the website.

Businesslive.co.za posted on August 6th, 2017, stating that Independent Online has told the users that they were trying to solve the problem.

Users further said that when they attempted to post IOL article in their Facebook page, at that time, they were notified about the news article that it was spam.

It issued a statement stating that they are presently receiving huge spam alerts volumes of the news content which they have reported. They further said in statement that "some of it being the 'UKZN Bust Story' 'Data disappearing' story 'Dullah Omar's name off Pro Zuma March'‚ 'OPINION: Introducing the Business Report Corruption Buster'‚ to name a few."

Apparently, this is having ripple effect on the Facebook - affecting those who shared the content. This matter is being investigated with the social media giant headquarters, and IOL are trying to solve the issue.

Eleanor Poulter has said on Facebook that somebody must have been reporting the posts to Facebook as spam. He further said that, "I got a notification as well after I shared the MTN disappearing data link. Since there have been a number of comments on various other threads about the media being anti-Zuma‚ agents of the DA‚ etc.‚ maybe the Zupta fans are trying to sabotage your FB presence."

Facebook South Africa informed the website named My Broadband that they can only reply, on Mon. morning, to the requests for comment. WisaniGuyu Mudyiwabangu Mn'wanati said that "I shared your post of six white people kicking black couple. It was reported as a spam."

Blocking all contents of IOL on the Facebook will reduce number of IOL articles readers, because several people use social media platform for finding the articles, instead of visiting particular websites of news for content.
