Uber Admits its Software Tool Under FBI’s Investigation

Uber recently admitted undergoing an investigation by federal authorities in connection with one software tool the company utilized sometime back with the objective of meddling with rival operators engaged in the business of hiring out cabs. A spokesman from Uber during an interview to AFP said that the company was willingly answering queries during the investigation following certain report by the Wall Street Journal about the investigation, even as he noted that Uber was no longer using the tool.

As accords to the repot, Federal Bureau of Investigation along with law enforcement authorities of New York was probing into the employment of the said tool named as "Hell" that would track drivers who plied the cabs of Lyft a competing ride-sharing conglomerate.

USA's Attorney Office within the Southern District of New York and FBI were trying to know whether the tool's utilization that opened phony customer A/Cs went against federal laws, stated individuals, identities not disclosed as they weren't allowed for any public discussion on the case. Memphisdailynews.com posted this online dated September 11, 2017.

Use of 'Hell" was also for collecting data regarding drivers employed at both Uber and Lyft, while Uber bribed them with money for getting them abandoning Lyft. A driver from Lyft who plied within California filed one federal class-action suit against the software during April. However, during past August, one federal judge dismissed the lawsuit because according to Uber, the lawsuit did not claim any material loss or crime.

Federal investigators are also probing Uber following allegations that the company utilized fake software towards prevention of city officials to find out if Uber was abiding by the regulations for the locality. Officials within Philadelphia, Oregon and Portland substantiated that federal authorities told them about the investigation.

The past week, Uber hired the Expedia travel website's chief executive Mr. Khosrowshahi for taking charge of the cab hiring out company. According to Mr. Khosrowshahi, he's thinking of drafting one fresh list of key values to help Uber expand while hopes towards resolving the company's troubles and get it all set again for the public, possibly during 2019.
