WeChat, the Chinese Social Networking Site is Banded by Australian Military

 

There is a prohibition of using WeChat for Australian Defense Department' members. Australian Financial Review said on Sunday, authorities in the department are leading a security evaluation on WeChat. The Australian military representatives will be prohibited from using it until it is marked safe.

 

A representative of Defense Department said to press, "they don't give or support the utilization of unapproved software on defense mobile phones, WeChat chatting app is among them. In a report byAmnesty International regarding privacy protections of generally utilized chatting app globally, WeChat marked 0.

 

WeChat doesn't give end-to-end encryption (E2EE) between users, creating messages more vulnerable to outsiders. Also, all the texts are saved in China's WeChat servers. Yet they confirmed that once the user receives the message they delete them from the server. The Epoch Times has revealed that the organization refreshed its security approach agreement in Sept. 2017, expressing that they would "hold, save or unveil" users' information to conform to the Chinese administration's "appropriate laws or directions."

 

A cyber security officer related to the government of Australia stated the AFR, "it is a clear understanding that WeChat have good capacity to aggregate and watch data would beapprehensive regarding software that is installed to a device that could then access a safe military structure.

 

Unreliability of WeChat has been noticed by other governments too. The Indian Defense Ministry forbid WeChat in December and other 41 Chinese Applications from phones that are government-owned after categorizing the apps as "spyware," reported by Indian Express. "Use of these applications by our army member can be harmful to data safety as national security and army are involved," the notice claimed as per The Indian Express as uploaded on theepochtimes.com 13/03/2018.

 

Russia also banned WeChat, as the organization violated a regulation of Russia for foreign technology agency to save data of users who are Russian citizen living in Russia, as reported by South China Morning Post.

 

In the meantime, USA, American intelligence firm warned government employees not to use the phones manufactured by ZTE and Huawei as both are Chinese-administration-friendly agency, notifying the risk of the state-supported espionageas well as cyber-attacks.
