Android Users Becoming Contaminated with Fake Fortnite Game Versions

The widely played online game "Fortnite" has been found infected with malware thus serving fake Android versions. The app's Android version (presently there solely on smart-phones or iOS) that is much demanded in games make the latter key target for cyber criminals.

With Fortnite getting played widely they have become one high scaled target. Within not even a year, 125m players have played the game, as accords to Epic Games. Moreover, while playing, players spent nearly USD 300m per month. And whilst the game can be downloaded on PlayStation 4, macOS, Windows, iOS and Xbox One, it's still to be downloadable on Android since its development is still in the process. Techworm.net posted this on the Web dated June 21, 2018.

In May 2018, the studio Epic Games for Fortnite had declared launch of the widely played fighter royale game's mobile version. In the aftermath, scammers and cyber crooks have started capitalizing on the opportunity while releasing malicious as well as bogus editions of Fortnite for drawing interest of the massive number of fans of the game whom they try to fool for personal gains. Cyber criminals, flimflammers and scammers enjoy as enthusiasm increases for an upcoming item which everybody desperately looks forward to downloading, so the gaping demand is then filled with malicious code.

Occasionally, the fraudsters do even more by utilizing the game's application label as well as loading screen for showing the payload camouflaged like the game's 'new update' which needs to undergo certain process of 'bot verification' involving taking down and planting more applications on the systems.

A definite method for eschewing the fraud is for just lingering on till the game's legitimate edition arrives on Google's Play Store. This summer, the port for Android is expected, according to Epic, although the specific date is yet to be declared.

The formal launch by Epic Games of Fortnite application to serve Android users is due for arriving the coming summer. So when the Fortnite application becomes available, players must take down the game solely from Google Play alternatively any other trusted authorized sites so that malicious/fake apps can be avoided.
