Atlas Quantum, an investment platform for crypto-currencies in Brazil which's popular among users became a victim of hack. Even though according to the company, all funds of different investors are safe, still more than 264,000 customers' personal details have been exposed.
A YouTube channel named Investimentos Digitais meaning Digital Investments first reported the hack. An aggregate of 14,500 records got exposed which thoroughly gives the customers' balances with the company. As accords to the exposed data, the total deposit with the investment company was 5,813 BTC, equivalent of some $39m.
The hack reportedly isn't the usual kind for many crypto firms for the reason it hasn't been done for stealing money. Instead it sought to access customers' data. And while the authorities didn't reveal any particular count of impacted consumers, HaveIBeenPwned.com tells the accounts numbered 261,463, hinting at the total victim count owing to the hack. Moreover, HIBP while enumerating the event notifies that all hacked content contains names, phone numbers, e-mail ids and A/C balances of the customers. On Facebook there was a statement by Atlas Quantum saying the company believed somebody without authority had misrepresented data regarding its clients' names, electronic mails, contact numbers and balances. The remaining information, especially passwords were secure because they were encrypted. Moreover, the investment funds with the company weren't compromised or accessed, Atlas assured.
In addition, the company stated it had deactivated some functions on the portal, notably funds withdrawal to serve as precautionary measure for making sure its customers were safe from probable fraud attempts.
And though the hackers were able in filching Atlas customers' e-mail ids as well as other particulars, the company confirms that passwords along with private keys continued to be encrypted at the time of hack. Besides, Atlas Quantum further adopted essential measures immediately following the hack's discovery for stalling the attack.
Keeping watch on affected accounts, Atlas additionally noted that it'd be taking fresh security steps while not dispatch its customers any electronic mail about their data for some hours. It's reported that to maintain security there's been a restriction imposed on account withdrawals. » SPAMfighter News - 9/4/2018 |
