Apple Voiceover Exploit Allows Attackers Access to Ios Devices

One of the most important features of iOS and macOS devices is the Apple VoiceOver. This feature was introduced first in macOS devices (i.e. in the macOS 10.4). Apple VoiceOver allowed the users with dyslexia and visual impairments to use the voice commands for controlling their Apple devices. Later, this Apple VoiceOver feature was
ported to iPod shuffle and finally to all the modern iOS devices.

An exploit was found by a hacker, which allows the attackers access to the iOS devices by exploit of the Apple VoiceOver. This exploit is yet to be patched, and is still available. Jose Rodriguez, an amateur hacker, has posted a video that showcases the exploit. In order to avoid getting exposed to this exploit, one must disable the access of Siri lock screen from the Settings > Face ID & Passcode or Settings > Touch ID & Passcode under the "Allow access when locked" group of settings.

The attack chain starts when the attacker calls the victim. This happens when Siri voice assistant is asked to read aloud phone numbers digit by digit, in case the attacker does not have this information, as posted on October 15, 2018, by zdnet.com.

Apple has also addressed the users for their complaints concerning iMessage delivering the personal messages to multiple as well as wrong people since roll out of the iOS12. The battery of an iPhone user drained from 94% to 88% only in 20 min., as per that user's write up in Twitter. Further, there are reports about iOS 12.0.1 breaking aceTime. This makes it impossible to send the pictures or initiate the FaceTime calls.

Many users of iOS 12.0.1 have reported problems such as abrupt signal connectivity, battery drainage, and broken calls. The Forbes reported that "Apple has been telling users that iMessage accidentally sending messages to wrong people is actually a feature for iOS 12 and that it is happening because Apple is now organising all contacts by Apple ID". So if friends or family members share an ID, then all of these messages get shared simultaneously with everybody whoever has that ID, as reported by Forbes.
