Idaho Falls School District Struck by a Computer Virus Attack

Idaho Falls School District 91 has been attacked by a computer virus. Margaret Wimborne, the spokeswoman of D91, said that due to the virus attack, large numbers of servers and computers of the district have been badly hit. However, the officials were not sure how much widespread the infection has been, or whether the information related to any of school's students or their family was compromised by the virus attack.

A cyber forensics firm has been hired by the Idaho Falls School District 91 , so as to investigate on the matter of virus attack that has infected their computers. As per Wimborne, the investigation on the issue of virus attack is still on. Wimborne added, "once we learned of the issue, we engaged a third party expert forensics firm to come in and conduct a thorough investigation and determine the full nature and scope of the attack. We're still trying to get an understanding of the scope of the virus ".

In her email written to the Post Register, Wimborne said that, "like any large organization, we periodically encounter viruses, but we haven't seen anything like this before ".

Talking further about the investigation, Wimborne mentioned that the investigation began soon after realizing the fact that a computer virus has been detected. It was also discovered that this virus has surpassed all anti-virus protections. Commenting further on the virus attack, Wimborne added, "it's not a ransomware virus and the way it was detected was that our IT staff noticed that we had some computers or systems that were shutting down and restarting unexpectedly ".

Wimborne in another statement added that the school district is continuing to work along with the third party investigators. He also asserted that information protection is the first and the foremost priority of the school officials, and that is the reason behind being thorough in their investigation process.

Wimborne further added that though the investigation process is still on, the efforts are being made to neutralize the effect of the virus. She also said that if any clue is found which shows the signs of parents' private information being affected, District 91 will immediately alert the effected parents about the same.
