Warning issued by Attorney General of Nevada to beware of ‘Fortnite’ online game scam

A warning has been issued to the players and the parents by Aaron Ford, Nevada's Attorney General, about possible scams related to the popular online game called 'Fortnite'.

Users can play the online game 'Fortnite' across multiple gaming as well as computer platforms, where the aim is to remain as last player standing till the end of this survival game and save oneself from the zombie-like creatures. As per the rating given to the game, this survival game is rated suitable only for the children who are 12 years and
above. However, this game has become so popular that now scammers are getting attracted; and they are tricking young as well as experienced users into disclosing their parents' billing and credit card information or their personal data.

Aaron Ford said that "scammers use clever ads to take advantage of unsuspecting people caught up in the game. These ads look like the real thing, and players may not realize they've been scammed until it's too late. I encourage users to be vigilant while playing this and any online games".

Though there is no fee involved for playing Fortnite, but V-Bucks are used by the players for purchasing game upgrades like characters, weapons, outfits, or the in-game dance options. The users can simply earn this currency by completing the game achievements, or can purchase V-Bucks directly with the real-world funds. However, it is not necessary to have V-Bucks for playing Fortnite. The common Fortnite scams include the offers of discounted or free V-Bucks.

AG Ford has requested the Fortnite users along with the parents to remain vigilant. Ford also urges that one should follow these tips to remain safe from the scam: while making any kind of purchases related to Fortnite game, the user should only use the official websites of Fortnite including epicgames.com and fortnite.com; never click on the
links that redirects to any third-party websites; V-Buck generators should never be used, as the only legitimate method to get V-Bucks for free is in-game; don't share your account or personal information online; never share the login credentials with your friends; use strong password for logging into the game; and avoid using the debit cards
for making purchases as credit cards offer better security protections and was not linked to account having finite money.
