Imparting ongoing training to employees on cyber security is must for keeping company data safe

Proofpoint in its latest report states that after analyzing the gaps in cyber knowledge of employees it showed that workers in 2018 desperately strived in recognizing phishing threats as well as safeguarding data all through the span of its lifetime.

Proofpoint's report titled "Beyond the Phish" provides outcomes of one audit that the security company conducted, and thus indicates that although staff members of organizations had knowledge about some specific aspects regarding cyber-security they actually lacked such knowledge in other areas. The audit, carried out during January 1-February 28, 2019, surveyed employees belonging to 16 separate industries for determining how much aware they were about mobile phone security, ransomware, phishing, social media activity, password hygiene, and many more security related topics. There were nearly 130m questions answered during the survey conducted over employees of the corporate clients of Proofpoint.

The mean number of employees answering queries incorrectly stood at 22%, higher than the mean 19% of the 2018 survey. Certain topics which caused the maximum trouble to employees included safeguards for PII (personally identifiable information) smart-phone data encryption, and what technical protections do towards prevention of socially-engineered attacks. www.scmagazine.com posted this, July 10, 2019.

The report found that the maximum number of wrong answers regarding security came from industries such as manufacturing, energy, healthcare, transportation and education, whereas the maximum number of correct replies were found in government organizations, technology, telecommunications, finance and insurance. In 2018, the industry of 'hotel and hospitality' was the worst in giving correct answers to the survey.

Proofpoint researchers recommend employees be imparted regular training on cyber-security for maintaining safety of data since staff as under educated makes security vulnerable. Only continuous training on security awareness will keep staff members increasingly engaged while assist them in retaining the greater portion of the learnt content.

Meanwhile, management isn't the limit for training. It's important that executives update their capability for detecting risks, while handle their mobile phones appropriately since they're likely to have reach on their organizations' most secret databases. For enhancing people's comprehension about security threats as well as problems, education is the ultimate means.
