Microsoft Integrated Code Protection In Visual Studio

On November 7, 2006, Microsoft declared at its TechEd show in Barcelona that next edition of Microsoft Visual Studio (code named as Orcas) will consist of the latest variant of PreEmptive Solution's 'Dotfuscator Community Edition'. It is a tool that is used to safeguard code from theft and attackers looking for flaws in securities.

Dotfuscator saves an IT firm's intellectual property (IP) via code obfuscation, randomization and encoding that makes it hard for an operation to be counter-engineered. The next edition of the item will be equipped with the coming Visual Studio upgrade (code name- Orcas). Microsoft has not confirmed any date for the launch of the operation development suite.

As per Gartner Inc., the implication of interpreted languages, such as managed .NET code and Java, makes reverse aggregation a comparatively an easy operation, providing the attacker has the capability to thieve the intellectual property or hunt for security flaws.

Gartner advised that if one has IP integrated in his software applications, which are spreaded externally to his enterprise, employ code obfuscation, encoding and randomization items to save deployed operations from counter-engineering.

Gabriel Torok, President, PreEmptive Solutions, informed that theirs is the only operations security provider to give patented obfuscation technology, randomization and encoding capabilities. Until this launch, the consistent integration to be given with Visual Studio was available to those users only who accredited commercial obfuscators. It remained completely missing from Java IDEs till now.

The recent edition of 'Dotfuscator CE' will be fully equipped with Visual Studio, thereby allowing automatic resolution of build dependencies, consistent coalition with other post-building processes like installation of script generation, and a seamless means to operate obfuscation artifacts, which streamline patch management, debugging and distributed development methods.

Prashant Sridharan, Group Product Maanger, Developer Division, Microsoft, stated at the TechEd conference, Spain that today, protection of IP and prevention of application susceptibility hunting are two key issues for software developers.

Obfuscation is a major element of Microsoft's wide 'operation life-cycle management solution'. Integration of obfuscation with Visual Studio development life-cycle will help millions of desktop developers as it takes the operation security and IP protection to a new level.

Sridharan said that PreEmptive Solutions' Dotfuscator represents a considerable improvement to the Visual Studio.
