UK’s Public Demand Protection of Personal Data

A latest and new report by Unisys claims that a huge difference has appeared between continental Europe and consumers in the UK over the way they treat their privacy of data and dependable IT (Information Technology).

The customers of the UK are the most demanding ones among all the European nations when it comes to the safety of their personal information. The data collected by Unisys clearly shows that 81% of the Britons say that a company's efficiency to keep the information safe and secure is a sign of trust building. On the other hand, 42% of French customers, 35% of German respondents and 40% of Belgians serves as a strong contrast.

The UK public also believes that inadequate safety of data completely eliminates the trust of the customer. 76% of Britons believe in this case, trailed by 62% of Spanish customers and 58% French users.

Not only this, the report also showed that the public of the UK also demand a reliable IT service. 75% of the UK consumers supported this notion in comparison with 67% in Holland, 28% in Spain, and 36% customers in France.

The Head of the enterprise security in continental Europe at Unisys, Rene Head, said that this research puts off the curtain from the lack of knowledge among customers in continental Europe about the importance of protecting their private data and the merits of having a reliable and dependent IT when they are traveling, shopping, banking or in hospital, as per the news reported by Vnunet in the second week of October 2007.

Rene added that considering the consequences of poor IT like service delays and online fraud, consumers expect that the business will not disappoint them and will protect their private information and deliver quality services. And if these things aren't fulfilled, the consumers prefer to shift their business elsewhere.

The study was carried out by Ponemon Institute on behalf of Unisys. The research polled 3,669 mature consumers in the Netherlands, France, the UK, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Sweden and Germany.
