The Basic Idea

This section outlines the main features of the SEM. In detail, it introduces you to the notion of the "detect-and-remove" SPAM process, as well as the Administration Module, which is the actual nerve centre of the SEM application.

Detect-and-remove

Once installed, The SEM will painlessly integrate itself with Microsoft Exchange Server, causing the detection of SPAM to be very fast as well as safe. When email arrives, the following measures are taken:

The Exchange Server will initially route the email to the appropriate addresses.
SEM will make a unique encrypted signature for each of the messages and sends it to the SPAMfighter Server for evaluation.
If the SPAMfighter Server determines that a message is spam, it will notify SEM.
SEM will then move the spam mail to the user's spam folder.

In addition to this effective detection and removal of SPAM, the SEM also offers reporting, so administrators can review statistics on how many messages SEM is filtering, how many users are enabled etc.

With regards to the end users, there are absolutely no causes for concern, as spam is automatically moved to their Spam folder. While SEM simplifies administration and keeps software and configuration off the employee's desktop, it also provides the option for individual control for end user's at the administrators request.

The Administration Module

The SPAMfighter Administration is the actual heart of the SEM. From here, you are able to manage the general behaviour of your SEM application. That is, monitor and set up mailboxes, create filters, view statistics, etc.

As the SEM is a server based application, access to the Administration Module is web based. Despite this, the Administration Module can still be accessed from the Windows Start Menu. When chosen from here, a new browser window will simply open up the Module. Once opened, you are ready to start "fine-tuning" your anti-spam tool.
