Google Mail Contains Maximum Number of Spam

According to a research by Roaring Penguin Software Inc., the amount of spam mail coming from Google Mail accounts has multiplied four times from 7% to 27%, as reported by heisonline on July 22, 2008.

The findings of research showed that more than one e-mail out of four coming from a Google Mail account was found to be spam, which makes up over 2% of total mail coming from America. Further, researchers have proved that the spam filter system of Google can be easily escaped and Google Mail spreading spam.

Also, the origin of spam mail has become more important as spam filters have based their analysis of mail messages on where they have come from and Google is always taken as a genuine address. The security provider informed that at any cost, no postmaster can put the Google Mail Server on the black list and refuse mail from there.

The most fascinating aspect of this research is that the number of spam registered coming from Hotmail and Yahoo remained largely constant during the review period. This points out that the specific increase in spam from Google mail is linked to cracking of Google captcha. Shockingly, spammers surpass Google's captcha that allows them to make Google mail accounts for sending spam automatically.

Also, phishing mails, which attempt to invade private data, are appearing to have come from authentic sites like recruitment agencies. Several agency sites are displaying alerts of not to divulge any such details on the job specs they have.

Sophos, another security firm, claimed that hackers are shifting to new targets which include social networking Websites where users easily divulge a lot about themselves to strangers. The firm also informed that the amount of spam increased 96.5% of the total business mails between April and June 2008, implying just one out of 28 business mails was authentic.
