Intensified Hacking Attacks Focus on Legitimate Websites

According to Websense, in the last six months of 2008, hackers increased their attacks on legitimate and trusted Websites like News.com and Facebook that millions of visitors surf every day. Hackers, who inject pieces of malicious programs into these Websites, normally deliver Trojans, viruses and spyware onto large numbers of unsuspecting computers.

Further, as per the Websense study, hackers compromised 50% more authentic Websites during January-June 2008 over in the period of July-December 2007. Also, at least 75% of Websites with malicious software were legitimate sites that suffer from infection, while 60 of the 100 most popular Websites either associated with or hosted malware in January-June 2008.
