Internet Needs to be More Secured, Say Security Experts

According to Scott Charney, Senior Security Executive of Microsoft, for the Internet to grow, it is necessary to make it more reliable. Charney cited this message in the 3rd week of April 2009 and then repeated it on April 22, 2009 at the San Francisco, USA held RSA Security Conference. SCMagazine reported this on April 22, 2009.

Mentioning how cyber criminals are increasingly exploiting the aspect of anonymity over the Internet, Charney said it needed to be lowered.

He further noted, numerous people in the present time are not aware of the form of software that operate on their computer, while a number of them unwittingly purchase bogus anti-virus products from unsafe Internet sites that malware distributors own. Such supposed anti-virus programs, according to Charney, mostly contain malicious software that instead of protecting the system infects it.

Further, many users often are not aware of the source they interact with on the Internet such as whether or not an e-mail message coming to their inbox is spoofed. Besides, when they go to websites, they are not sure about the trustworthiness of that site.

Similarly, say security experts that while operators of online chat rooms often reassure users about the safety of the same, the real picture is quite the opposite. For, a lot of data loss occurs at these chat rooms when users access unsecured websites.

Another factor that contributes to the diminished security of the Internet is about pornographic websites that numerous people crowd on, including children. Since the Internet cannot determine the website visitors' age and also since parents can't always accompany their kids while the latter go online, there is hardly any control over the Internet. Further, criminals perform their activities through malicious websites disguised as protected sites and which children access as they click vicious links. This therefore also makes the net insecure and unsafe.

Thus security specialists concluded, the Internet is an extremely unsafe place for unwary netizens especially if they are not technically skilled and perform their routine chores on it while remaining ignorant that they might land into the cyber miscreants' malicious nets.
