McAfee - Yuvraj and Aishwariya Most Dangerous Indian Web Celebs

McAfee's new research report, which reveals the most dangerous web celebs of India, states that Bollywood actress 'Aishwariya Rai' and cricketer 'Yuvraj Singh' are the riskiest Indian celebrities to search for on Internet.

Fans looking for "Yuvraj Singh downloads," "Yuvraj Singh photos," "Yuvraj Singh wallpapers," "Aishwariya Rai wallpapers," "Aishwariya Rai videos" and "Aishwariya Rai screensavers" are landing on malicious websites in one out of every five chances. These websites contain malicious content like spyware, adware, viruses, phishing, spam and other malicious codes (malware). Besides, search for new celebrity downloads and news can result in serious damage to user's system.

Other cricketers M.S Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh stood at third and sixth places respectively on the list, giving tough competition to Bollywood celebs to clutch the most dangerous website celebrity crown. It implies that the notorious and successful stars often become favorites of cyber criminals searching way to install malicious codes on computers.

Kartik Shahani, Regional Director, McAfee Inc. (India), states that Bollywood and Cricket are two areas about which every Indian absolutely crazy. Consequently, cyber criminals exploit celebrities from both sports and cinema to entice naive fans to enable the installation of harmful software in disguise, as reported by IT NEWS ONLINE on September 7, 2009.

Shahani adds that it is very usual for malware creators to exploit contemporary topics enticing users to harmful sites created specifically for this purpose. He also adds that users should be careful and keep their antivirus solution updated.

Besides cricketers, South Indian movie actresses -Shriya Saran and Namitha- surpassed Hindi movie stars like Katrina Kaif. Namitha retained her position among the leading five dangerous celebs to search for on the Internet.

Sania Mirza, the top tennis star of India, grabs the seventh riskiest celebrity position on the list. Fans looking for "Sania Mirza wallpapers/images" can be led to links to other malicious websites containing browser exploits and spyware.

It is not the first time when McAfee released the "most dangerous Indian celebrities to search for on Internet." In May 2009, McAfee called Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif the riskiest Indian celebrity to search on the Web.
