United States DOJ Indicts Seven Iranians in Hacking Conspiracies

The Department-of-Justice in USA has declared a legal charge against 7 hackers who allegedly received state-backing from the government of Iran. The U.S recently accused the seven men of infiltrating the PC-networks belonging to chief American industries.

The offences committed are compromising the public websites of American banks during late 2011 to May 2013, as well as hacking one PC exclusively for a dam inside Rye, New York so the attackers could apparently disrupt its working.

United States Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch made the charges on the 7 individuals whose names are Amin Shokohi, Hamid Firoozi, Ahmad Fathi, Omid Ghaffarinia (also called PLuS), Sadegh Ahmadzadegan ( also called Nitrogen26), Nader Saedi (also called Turk Server) and Sina Keissar.

On Thursday morning, the Justice Department announced the charges against the men during one press conference inside Washington, D.C. stating they executed several DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) assaults serially on 46 financial firms.

The assaults deactivated the websites of victim banks, blocked access to online accounts for the bank customers as well as together made the victims lose multi-million dollars to cover remediation expenses towards mitigation and neutralization of the assaults targeted against the banks' servers. Alexandrianews.com posted this, March 24, 2016.

One man out of the seven was also charged with hacking into SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) machines installed for the Browman Dam inside Rye, N.Y.

One grand jury of the federation while declaring the charge said that the accused individuals were involved in schemes the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps of Iran carried out. The IRGC is one unit of the Iranian Armed Forces. Without specifically stating that the IRGC essentially directed the assaults, the DOJ stated that the computer attackers did tasks for the government of Iran, particularly the IRGC.

All the seven individuals face charges of series of conspiracies involving conniving to and committing computer hacking whilst an extra accusation against Firoozi is acquiring and conniving towards performing illegitimate admission into one protected PC at the small Rye dam.

All of the defendants are going to serve jail for up to 10-yrs while Firoozi is going to serve prison for 5-yrs more.
