The Spam Equation

Cyberspace is an easier way of staying in touch with the world around us, but with the augment of spammers and phishing fraudsters the Internet is turning out to be a prospering ground for malicious people. Every other day millions of dollars around the world are embezzled by cyberspace criminals. spammers use a wide variety of techniques to gain access to personal information.

Content filtering solutions employed by most proactive antispam software are not impervious to the advanced spamming methodologies adopted by spammers. Antispam softwares use many other methods based on signatures, URL blocking or heuristic rules. The spammers do sometimes find ways to surpass these spam filters using sophisticated HTML and CSS based methods. Other techniques employed by spammers include placing of the content of message in the form of randomized attached images.

Spammers relentlessly try to seek loopholes in the domain name registration systems that allow them to avoid pre-emptive detection. They also exploit flaws in the security of web-hosting providers to facilitate the registration of thousands of new home pages every day to further their spam business.

Antispam software providers have a tough challenge with new age spam threats. With advancements in technology and greater connectivity, spamming techniques have evolved and become more and more sophisticated. spammers are increasingly aware of antispam techniques used by most antispam providers and find better ways to surpass filtering engines. Needless to say, they are often remarkably successful.

Around 12.4 billion spam e-mails are being sent on a daily basis, and over 28% of the Internet users respond to such malicious e-mails. The mounting challenges posed by the rise in spam put added pressure on antispam providers to upgrade their products to marginalize the new spam threats. There is growing awareness about spam and its implications among people and government agencies.

With increase in the number of Internet users, Internet frauds are set to rise for sure. The battle against spam is slated to continue for a long time. However, a surefire method against this cyber menace is installing ever evolving antispam software and upgrading them frequently.
