Schoolteacher Sentenced For Exposing Students To Porn

Even as Julie Amero, the stand-in instructor in the U.S waits for a probable 40-year sentence, for subjecting seventh-graders to cyberporn, the case has attracted nationwide interest from school IT executives, according to reports issued on May 24, 2007 by Linuxworld.

All along, Amero has maintained that she's not guilty, claiming that spyware took over her classroom PC, while clarifying the porn popups that several Kelly Middle School pupils witnessed on 19 October 2004.

An ex-schoolmistress, Julie Amero aged 58-years, is being tried in Barstow Superior Court on allegations of obscene conduct with kids. She was sentenced in January 2007, and her final court appearance was in March 2007. Presently, she waits for final judgment on 6 June, having rejected a plea bargain wherein she could have evaded imprisonment.

"All the allegations leveled against her are unconvincing," states Tom Sims, network services director of Miami-Dade Public Schools, with 375,000 pupils and 90,000 computers for their use.

Sims thinks that Amero, who herself informed about the desktop's pornographic pop-up display activities, is being wrongly charged. "She's a target of spyware which after hijacking the desktop makes this materialize," as per the May 24, 2007 issue of PCWorld.

Amero in a Suntimes report on February 14, 2007, alleged that adware and spyware were responsible for the images. Though prosecutors disagree, but some technical specialist's assert that anybody could be victim to spyware.

A couple of witnesses had attested that links to sites showing naked females sighted on James McKinley's PC could have been embedded by spyware.

Brian Swan, sheriff's computer forensics expert, vouched that the links to the obscene matter were prepared between beginning September 2005 and tail end December 2005 from a desktop at McKinley's Apple Valley home.

The time frame tallied with the time when 23 years old Ryan, McKinley's son wasn't at home. McKinley jr. declared on February 14, 2007 that while at home he often visited porn websites and it was virtually a habit.

When defense lawyer Stanley Hodge interrogated Swan, the investigator was unable to explain how the links materialized on the PC.
