VPD Cautions Netizens of Scam E-Mail

According to Vancouver Police, netizens should watch out for an e-mail, which purports to be from the VPD (Vancouver Police Department), thus published Vancouversun.com in news on May 3, 2011.

Apparently, having the signature of Jim Chu Chief Constable of VPD, the fake electronic mail directs recipients to send money and targets people in foreign countries who are looking to be employed in Canada.

It was when someone from the Middle East lodged a complaint the Department happened to handle that hints of the scam's circulation became noticeable. Actually, the particular person had submitted an application for work within the Vancouver's sector for hospitality. In response he received an e-mail asking for $450.

States Const. Lindsey Houghton Spokesman of VPD, the e-mail caused doubt in the person's mind for, he had noticed plentiful grammatical and spelling mistakes in it. News1130.com reported this dated May 3, 2011.

Stated Houghton, scams of the above kinds exploited the faith in government agencies and people's emotions. He felt worried that those scams could possibly fool them, asking as to what extent could anyone be more genuine than if he included the name of the Chief Constable as the signatory of the e-mail. Vancouversun.com reported this.

Elsewhere Houghton stated that the VPD didn't ever summon any service related to money matters via the Net as well as didn't encourage any payment, for providing services, through wire-transfer. Cknw.com published this on April 3, 2011.

Additionally, the Spokesman stated that police wasn't aware of the number of such e-mails dispatched, the people behind them, alternatively whether anybody had really got scammed. Nevertheless, he stated that people getting victimized with the scam must instantly get in touch with police.

And because the above kinds of scams are so malicious, Police recommend job-hunters for adopting a few security measures like being wary of any job opportunity e-mail, which asks to wire money irrespective of the extent of credibility the offer may appear to demonstrate to the recipient. Most importantly, genuine organization officers, say the VPD Chief Constable wouldn't contact employment hunters directly as well as dispatch employment opportunity messages to them online.
