Best Buy Clients Alerted to another Security Breach

According to the electronics seller Best Buy, it has notified consumers about one recent security incident as well as that it's taking legal action against it wherein an ex-business associate had been involved. EMoney Daily published this on May 6, 2011.

Stated Vice-President and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Barry Judge of Best Buy, the retailer had found that the files of an ex-business associate which contained Best Buy clients' e-mail ids were illegitimately gained access to. However, Best Buy indicates that before the security breach, the commercial relationship with that business associate was stopped because of a strategic decision not related to the incident.

Furthermore, the retailer cautioned affected consumers for being vigilant of probable scam e-mails that could come to them owing to the breach. Such e-mails could be those carrying malevolent attachments or web-links posing as messages from genuine senders.

Also, the firm states that Best Buy wouldn't ever request customers for supplying else validating any personal details like payment card numbers, except if they're listed on its protected e-commerce website -www.bestbuy.com alternatively, if they call the firm straight for securing purchases of its products. Therefore, the firm recommends its customers that they should erase any e-mail coming to them that requests for their private information since it isn't from Best Buy. Moreover according to Judge, Best Buy trusted that the only data hacked, related to customers' e-mail ids leaving all other data as they were. Significantly, among the 50 business firms or more affected with a security hack at Epsilon the provider of e-mail marketing during April 2011, Best Buy was one of them. At that time the security hack had led to the exposure of numerous consumers' e-mail ids and names.
