Kamloops Woman Falls Prey to Property E-Mail Scam

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), finding little possibility for seizing the culprits behind victimizing a 29-year-old woman in Kamloops (British Columbia, Canada) has reportedly, ended the matter. Kamloopsnews.ca published this on May 10, 2011.

Actually during April 2011, an online listing came to the woman through e-mail for one unit available on hire inside a building situated in Lone Street (Auckland Central, Auckland).

The supposed owner of the unit, calling himself Raul Tower apparently was touring England, when the lady contacted him.

In response Tower wrote to her that it was essential she wired the necessary rent amount through the wire-transfer firm Blue Dot Express. Subsequently, once he'd get the rental fees, he'd dispatch the company's keys to her through the same firm, the so-called owner wrote. Kamloopsnews.ca reported this.

Nonetheless, taking some measures for making sure that she was dealing with a legitimate hirer, the woman searched through Blue Dot Express that Tower had written she should use; however, that wasn't sufficient.

Stated Staff Sgt. Grant Learned of Kamloops RCMP, the e-mail id she found on the firm's online site appeared different from the one the said landlord furnished where the cash was to be wired; however, she wire-transferred 4 installments of $680 for meeting probable damages along with rent for 2-months and miscellaneous expenses. But the cops, who verified with Western Union, declared that someone collected it in London. Also according to Learned, investigators further came to know that wire-transfers amounting below $1,000 didn't mandate personal identification of the individual collecting the sum.
