Alert About Scam United States Visa E-mail Issued

The US Embassies' consular sections in Accra (Ghana), Bahrain, Pakistan and Bangladesh have issued an alert that a new fake lottery e-mail campaign is currently circulating aiming to attack citizens. The gulf-daily-news.com reported this on January 27, 2011.

Characteristically, the caption in the scam e-mails is given as, "U.S Department of State-United States Permanent Resident Card for [recipient's name]."

Addressing the recipient and congratulating him, the fake e-mails tell he's one of the many randomly chosen as also registered to be thought for inclusion into the Diversity Visa immigrant scheme. The choosing confirms that he'll get one authorized card for permanent residence in the U.S., also called a Diversity Visa or Green Card. But for that he must abide with the given directions to enable the necessary processing, the e-mails assert.

Moreover, the e-mails ask the recipient to pay $440 to a U.K address as also possibly others.

But, according to the US Embassy's Public Affairs Section (PAS), the aforementioned electronic messages simply represent junk e-mails that must be deleted. Indeed, the Section outlined two vital issues for lending credibility to its claim. First, no Diversity Visa notice is dispatched through e-mail.

Stated the press-report, any e-mail, which told the recipient that he was winner of the Diversity Visa lottery alternatively was eligible for a Green Card, was illegitimate. Potential entrants to Diversity Visa could know how far their online requests have proceeded via visiting the www.dvlottery.state.gov site designed to take care of the DV2012 season post May 1, 2011, the press-report added. Thefinancialexpress-bd.com published this on January 26, 2011.

The press-report further added that no private firm or other organization except PAS was authorized for announcing the victory of applicants for Diversity Visa lottery alternatively what was their future course of action.

Secondly, merely websites having .gov in their domain addresses represent original American government websites. An e-mail whose sender's address reflects an ".org," ".net" or ".com" isn't an authentic US Embassy e-mail.

Additionally, the Embassy advised netizens that they could get more information regarding the Diversity Visa scheme via accessing the official website of the US Department of State.
