China Conquering Over the Spam Menace

A very big source of global junk e-mails, China, is understandably slowly sliding down the list containing the most spam-generating countries worldwide. In fact, the IronPort groups of the anti-spam company Cisco Systems places China on No.18 within its top spam producing countries list. Two years back, the country was consistently among the top 5, thus the present situation suggests a huge decline. PCWorld published this on February 26, 2011.

Actually, since 2006, China has been continuously striving for controlling its junk e-mails that emanate from the 420m Internet users the country has. Results have ensued and China has slid from the No.3 rank to No.20, reveals a report by Sophos another security company.

Said Patrick Peterson, Research Fellow at Cisco, it was possibly increasingly due to censorship and marginally from preventing spam; however, spam outbreaks had stopped as a net outcome. He added that it was unprecedented within the latest memory that China hadn't entered the Top Ten list. HardLOCP published this on February 27, 2011.

Stated Chairman of the Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group Michael O'Reirdan who's also an eminent engineer with Comcast that China was drawing wide attention with respect to the spam volumes which weren't flowing from it currently. ComputerWorldUK published this on February 28, 2011.

Incidentally, a very large problem related to spam mails coming from China was that they were often contracted out to other nations. Moreover, it's understood that numerous spammers operating from USA employ Chinese spammers in the region for deploying servers inside Internet Service Provider data centers within China.

Hopefully, USA will learn some lessons from China. Says Sophos, USA continues to be the leading source of global spam, while according to security researchers, a lot of those junk electronic mails are the creation of spammers living offshore. Still given that there are so many hijacked PCs inside USA that the spammers can use, the problem i.e. spam is therefore quite big.

Nevertheless, according to CIO Richard Cox of Spamhaus the anti-spam agency, most of the spam perpetrators are currently operating from Russia having moved out of China, thus published ComputerWorldUK in news dated February 28, 2011.
