Fake Web Page of ADAG Launched by Marketing Executive

On March 27, 2008, a marketing executive (36) was arrested by Mumbai crime branch's Cyber Crime Cell (CCC) from Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh, India, for attracting investors through a fake Internet site of the ADAG (Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group).

The police informed that a Web page with Reliance Communications logo and Anil Ambani's photograph (Chairman of Reliance Communications) was launched by Sujankumar Narsima Reddy.

According to the news published on March 28, 2008 by DNAindia, the Joint Commissioner of Police (crime), Rakesh Maria, said that the criminal has launched many marketing schemes of insurance policies and mobile phone handsets. The criminal promoted the scheme under the patronage of ADAG as multi-level schemes.

The police also revealed that as the accused is a marketing executive, the schemes launched by him were planned properly. Reddy asked the interested investors to give their personal information like name, address, etc. by filling up a form and to avoid any doubts in users' mind, he did not asked for any money.

On March 18, 2008, a complaint was filed with the CCC by ADAG's legal department. In complaint, they informed the police about the launch of a fake Web page having Anil Ambani's photograph. This Web page provides various schemes to the investors and it will be released on April 10, 2008 which is the last date for interested people to become member. Many incentives were also offered in these schemes, such as car for the members who will be able to hook maximum customers.

In the news published on March 28, 2008 by DNAindia, Sanjay Mohite, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, said that police has traced the accused through the IP address. He added that Reddy's PC and other related material is seized by the police and they are making efforts to get back to the already deleted data from Reddy's computer.

Mohite also informed that police has also scrutinized Sujankumar's e-mail ID and found various information connected to this crime. The CCC is also working on to find out whether anybody else has helped Reddy in this crime.
