Self-Changing Malware Keeps Criminals Ahead of Protection Software

In an interview with the media, Marc Henauer, Cyber Crime Division Head, the Swiss Justice and Police Department, said that all malware, particularly viruses, are now capable of repeatedly modifying their signatures in intervals of just few hours, as reported by Strategicrisk on May 13, 2008.

According to Marc Henauer, this implies that the miscreants in most cases are ahead of the protection software. These attackers use self-modifying codes that evade recognition by adjusting to the anti-malware and anti-spam solutions they encounter.

Moreover, the easily available knowledge and construction kits for creating the shape-changing threats are found to release torrents of shape-changing.
